Tricky Triclosan, Hidden Pesticide in Your Beauty Products?

Antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal agents are good crap, aren’t they? Though they might sound beneficial, these beauty products could be hiding something we refer to as tricky triclosan.

Few people imagine something that sounds good for them could be bad. This is the situation with beauty products containing triclosan. The aromatic compound is represented by both ethers and phenols. Sounds like confusing crap eh?  No doubt….

Triclosan is used in pesticides, insulation and mattresses to slow the growth of mildew, fungi and bacteria. It is also contained in personal products such as soaps, toothpastes, mouthwashes, hand sanitizers, dish detergents and deodorants.  Sounds like some very icky poop

Originally the FDA found triclosan was not known to be hazardous to us humans. Now scientific studies have come out that are causing the FDA to think this stuff merits further review. This sound like some scary crap!

The LA Times reported Lisa Archer, the director of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics at the Breast Cancer Fund in San Francisco, said triclosan can disrupt hormones. It may also affect fetal growth and development. She revealed triclosan is no more effective at getting rid of germs than soap and water. We wonder why anyone would use this crap!

Major companies are already phasing out products containing triclosan including L’Oreal and The Body Shop. In the past, products by Bath and Body Works continued to contain triclosan. The key is to read the label before buying anything to make sure it doesn’t contain this nasty ingredient.

Non-toxic beauty products and organic skin care do not contain compounds such as triclosan. A natural cleanser and water is just as effective and far less dangerous than beauty products containing tricky triclosan.   Triclosan is for you to poop on! 🙂
