Aromatherapy for Mood and Skin – Pure Poopy or Real Deal?

There’s a lot of discussion about the healing attributes of aromatherapy. Many holistic and natural practitioners are revering the use of certain scents to relieve a variety of ailments. It leaves many of us wondering about using aromatherapy for mood, skin and other conditions -is it pure poopy or the real deal?

According to the Mayo Clinic, there therapeutic use of essential oils from plants is called aromatherapy. Currently limited research is available regarding the effectiveness of aromatherapy. Some studies reveal aromatherapy has health benefits including relief of anxiety and depression as well as an improved quality of life for people facing chronic conditions. This sounds like good crap to us!

There are few side effects associated with the use of essential oils. They may be irritating to certain skin types or people with breathing disorders. More research still needs to be done regarding how aromatherapy affects pregnant or breast-feeding women or people taking certain medications. The essential oils used in aromatherapy are not regulated by the FDA. It sounds like rather confusing poop, doesn’t it?

The bottom line is essential oils are safe when you use them as directed. Most are too strong to take internally. They should also be used topically. Scent receptors send messages through your nervous system to part of the brain that controls emotions. This clears thing up for us and sound like some impressive crap!

Often aromatherapy is used in skin care or massage to combine the healing effects of moisturizing, cleansing and relaxation. Consider a few popular essential oils found in a variety ofnatural and organic products that also offer aromatherapy benefits.
